In the seventeenth century, especially between 1629 and 1631, the country was severely hit by the tragedy of the plague, which
was raging in many regions of Europe at the time.
The Church of San Rocco dates back to this period, built as a vow to put an end to the scourge. In the 20th century the
municipal territory was hit by the tragic events of the two world wars. During the Great War, Sernaglia became a strategically important area along the Piave Line. The town underwent the Austro-Hungarian military occupation and the total destruction of the town.
